We are pleased to offer electronic books based on the travel and adventure experiences we've had, and continue to have. These e-books are published in Adobe Acrobat format, and are available on CDROM only. Each e-book will contain about 150-200 pages, about half of which will be text-and-image combinations that tell the story of the trip, site, or animal. The remainder of the e-book is made up of full-screen images of the photos. Readers can browse the text-and-image portion, reading about the adventure and viewing the pictures in thumbnail mode, and click on any image to be switched to the full-screen version of the image.
These books are narratives of real travel experiences, and will present what are probably the most detailed look at specific adventure travel destinations available today. The books include photos of the trips, stories of actual traveler experiences, and facts about the places, things, and animals that are there to see. Armchair adventurers can get a real sense of a destination through these books, and someone considering a trip to one of these places can find out more about the trip than could ever be learned, short of actually taking it!
The image above is a sample cover from one of our TREKKEBOOKTM adventure e-books. These books are structured to be easily viewed on a standard monitor or laptop computer. The navigation of each e-book is based on the bar you see at the bottom of the page. With the buttons there, you can move forward and backward through the book, and by clicking on any thumbnail image included with the text, you'll jump to a full-page view of that image. Please note that these e-books are protected against printing or extraction of text or images. You are not permitted to make printed copies or extract elements of the material for any purpose. This image represents our new all-digital format; two e-books based on our original format with scanned film/slide images are still available.
All of our TREKKEBOOKTM adventure e-books are authored in the same format, so navigating them is consistent across all the titles. Each book requires about 40 MB storage, and they can be read from the CDROM or copied to hard disk. The books will require the latest version of the Acrobat Reader program, which can be downloaded from Adobe's website (http://www.adobe.com). For all new TREKKEBOOKTM adventures, Acrobat 6.x (the current version) is required. You can determine what version of the Acrobat reader you have by running the reader and clicking on Help>About, and you should download the latest version before purchasing. A sample e-book is now available on this site, to validate your ability to read the format before you order. See below!
The CD is designed for use on Windows-compatible systems, but may also be readable on Apple Macintosh systems, LINUX systems, or any hardware/software platform that supports ISO-standard CD formats and has an available Acrobat Reader of Version 6 or later. We use the TrueType embedded “Tahoma” font; be sure your system supports TrueType fonts. Automatic CD starting is supported on Windows XP computers (AUTORUN) if the function is enabled on the computer system, and may also work on other Windows versions. Mac users must open the e-book from Finder. If for some reason, Autorun does not work on your Windows system, you can start the e-book by clicking on the pdf book file using Explorer or open the Acrobat Reader, select File>Open and open the pdf book file on your CDROM drive.

A new sample in our TREKKEBOOKTM series is now available! San Diego Interlude is a short electronic book that uses all the format and navigation features of our full TREKKEBOOKTM series. The use of higher-resolution images in these e-books makes even a sample version very large; this sample e-book is approximately 7 million bytes in length, so downloading it on a dial-up modem could take an hour or more. We strongly recommend that only users with broadband connections attempt to download this sample. We cannot provide CD versions of this sample, so please don't ask! If you have a broadband connection, right click here to download a zip-compressed version of the sample e-book, then use any normal zip utility to unzip the file into a standard PDF for viewing. Our standard license restrictions apply to this sample, but you can distribute it freely as long as you do not charge for the sample in any way, link its use to any activity for which you collect a fee, or use it in any other commercial context.
